ECG Test
An electrocardiogram (ECG) is a common, quick and painless test that records the electrical activity of the heart. MedeScope Healthcare Center provides resting ECG as part of routine checkups, corporate examinations and insurance medical examinations.
What it is
During an ECG, small sticker electrodes are placed on the chest, arms and legs. These are connected to a machine that records the timing and pattern of the heart's electrical signals onto a tracing.
Why it may be recommended
A resting ECG may be advised as part of a general health checkup, before certain procedures, to help evaluate symptoms such as palpitations or chest discomfort, or as part of a corporate or insurance medical examination. It provides information that a healthcare professional can consider alongside your history and examination.
What patients can expect
The test usually takes only a few minutes. You lie still on a couch while the recording is taken. There is no electric shock and nothing is injected. You can resume normal activities immediately.
How the service works
- 1Visit the center at your appointment time.
- 2A technician places the electrodes and asks you to lie still and breathe normally.
- 3The recording is captured over a short period.
- 4The electrodes are removed and the tracing is prepared.
- 5The report is provided for interpretation by a qualified healthcare professional.
Preparation
Wear comfortable clothing that allows easy access to the chest, wrists and ankles. Avoid applying oil or heavy moisturiser to the skin on the day of the test as it can affect electrode contact.
