Treadmill Test (TMT)

A Treadmill Test (TMT), also called a cardiac stress test or exercise ECG, records the heart's activity while the body is working harder during exercise. MedeScope Healthcare Center provides supervised TMT as part of health checkups and medical examinations.

What it is

During a TMT, ECG electrodes are attached and your blood pressure is monitored while you walk on a treadmill that gradually increases in speed and incline. The test continues until a target level is reached or until you or the supervising staff decide to stop.

Why it may be recommended

A TMT may be advised to help evaluate exercise capacity and how the heart responds to exertion, to assess certain symptoms, or as part of a comprehensive or insurance medical examination. Results are considered by a healthcare professional alongside your overall assessment.

What patients can expect

The active walking part usually lasts several minutes, with monitoring before and after. You can stop at any time if you feel unwell. Staff monitor you throughout and afterwards during a short recovery period.

How the service works

  1. 1Visit the center at your appointment time with any prescription or examination requirement.
  2. 2Electrodes are attached and a resting ECG and blood pressure are recorded.
  3. 3You begin walking on the treadmill as the speed and incline increase in stages.
  4. 4Heart activity and blood pressure are monitored during exercise and recovery.
  5. 5The report is prepared for interpretation by a qualified healthcare professional.

Preparation

Wear comfortable clothes and walking shoes. Ask the center whether to take your regular medicines on the day. Avoid a heavy meal, smoking and caffeine for a few hours before the test unless advised otherwise. Tell staff about any symptoms or conditions before starting.
